Winter training in the UK can be a grind. Dark mornings, wet roads and hours on the turbo trainer get the job done, but by March most triathletes are ready for something different. That’s where a spring training camp comes in. A week of focused swim, bike and run training in the sun can set you up for your whole race season. Here are the biggest benefits.
1. A big block of training without the distractions
At home, training has to fit around work, family and everything else. On camp, your only jobs are to train, eat and recover. That makes it much easier to complete a block of quality training that would be almost impossible to fit into a normal week.
2. Ride outdoors in the spring sunshine
After months indoors, there’s no better boost than long rides on dry, quiet roads in the sun. Time in the saddle outdoors also builds bike handling, pacing and climbing skills that the turbo simply can’t replicate.
3. Coaching in person
Training plans and data are valuable, but nothing beats a coach watching you swim, ride and run. On camp, coaches can spot technique issues straight away, give you feedback on the spot and help you put it into practice in the very next session.
4. Build skills and confidence
Skills sessions such as bike handling, descending, swim clinics and open water practice make a real difference on race day. One of our 2026 campers had never ridden a bike outside before camp. Within hours she was confident on the road, and after four days she completed the 135km MA10 ride.
5. Train with like-minded people
Training in a group is motivating. You’ll push each other in interval sessions, chat through the long rides and share the highs and lows of a big week. Many athletes leave camp with new training partners and friends.
6. Learn how to recover
A good camp week teaches you as much about recovery as it does about training. Eating well, sleeping properly and managing fatigue across several days are skills that carry straight into your race preparation.
7. The perfect start to your race season
Timing is what makes a spring camp so effective. You’ve done your winter base, and racing is just around the corner. Camp gives you a clear marker of your fitness and the motivation to carry that momentum into the summer. Why Mallorca for a spring training camp?
Mallorca is one of Europe’s most popular destinations for spring cycling, and for good reason. It has quiet roads, mild spring weather and famous climbs such as Sa Calobra, Puig Major and Cap de Formentor. The north of the island, around Port de Pollença and Alcúdia, makes a great base for swim, bike and run training. Our complete guide to triathlon training camps in Mallorca covers the island in more detail.
Join us in Mallorca in 2027
Our Mallorca triathlon training camp runs Saturday to Saturday across three weeks in March and April 2027, with small groups of no more than 25 athletes and at least 3 coaches each week. All abilities are welcome, whether you’re preparing for your first sprint or your next IRONMAN.
