The Complete Guide to Triathlon Training Camps in Mallorca

I've sent more athletes to Mallorca than I can count on both hands, and I'll say this upfront: a training camp won't fix a training plan that's already broken. It will, however, let you bank the kind of volume and consistency that's nearly impossible to find in a UK winter and that's exactly why the island is where half the triathlon world disappears every spring.

James has been coming on our camps for 6 years now - it serves as the motivation over the winter months to progress his fitness and every year he comes away that little bit better prepared for his next training black and more importantly his A race of the season

Why Mallorca, specifically

It's not just marketing. The roads around Pollença and Alcúdia are quiet, cyclist friendly and the climbs are long and clean (Sa Calobra being the obvious one everyone talks about), and the coastline gives you calm, warm water for open swim sessions. Add a reliable dry climate from March through May, and you've got a genuine training reset.

When to go

Most camps run between March and May, which lines up well if you're building toward a summer or early-autumn IRONMAN. That timing isn't an accident it sits right at the point in a season where athletes need a volume block before race-specific work takes over. If an IRONMAN is your target, a camp in April gives you roughly four to five months to convert the fitness into race sharpness.

What a week actually looks like

Expect two structured sessions most days a bike-heavy morning, a run or swim in the afternoon built around your existing plan, not a generic "camp programme." Good camps flex to your event and your current training load. Bad ones just pile on volume because the roads are there. Ask before you book.

OE’s camps are inclusive. We leave nobody behind and we often have a coach to athlete ratio of 1:4 & 1:5 to manage groups well on the road.

Making it count when you get home

The camp is the easy part. The mistake I see most is athletes coming home from Mallorca fitter and then getting injured or burnt out within three weeks because nobody planned the landing. Build a deliberate recovery week in, and have your next training block ready before you fly out not after.

If you want that block planned properly around a camp, that's exactly the kind of thing we sort out in a 1-2-1 coaching relationship. Get in touch via our contact page and we'll build it around your race calendar.

FAQ

Do I need a coach to benefit from a training camp? No, but you'll get far more from it with a plan behind you. Camps are volume opportunities. We make sure that volume is correct for every athlete.

How much cycling experience do I need before going? Enough to handle sustained climbing and descending in a group. If you're newer to riding, get some hill work in beforehand so the camp isn't your first exposure to real gradient.

Is a Mallorca camp worth it if I'm training for IRONMAN? Yes the timing typically fits well into any IRONMAN build, giving you a solid volume block with enough runway left to sharpen up.

What should I budget for, beyond the camp fee? Flights, bike hire or transport, and extra nutrition/fuelling costs from the higher training load. Don't skimp here, as under-fuelling a camp week is one of the fastest ways to undo the benefit.
